07/02/15 I've noticed a decent number of new players coming in after the Kongregate launch, but it seems like very few of them have created new areas. It's normal for the majority of players in games with content creation to only play through the content without making any themselves (I myself only occasionally build, though I do enjoy it), but I was thinking it might be possibly to give new players a bit of a nudge towards encouraging them to build via adding flat, one-time rewards to the Mitsu's Tales stages. In order to enter and complete one of the story stages, a player needs to have already explored at least a bit of the world and needs to be familiar with at least the basic controls and the stages themselves do a good job of showing off solid level design and uses of fame-based objects and enemies, so it is probably safe to say that they would be capable of making at least a basic stage by that point. Rewards can be basic things like a flat boost of 500-1000+ gold to help players with getting enough gold for the area-creation fee and/or for buying new stage elements. However, these story stages could also have one reward for a normal completion and another reward for a perfect completion with the latter being more unique, such as a pass to create a single new area for free or tickets which can be exchanged for specific fame shop items, such as a single Emory Marksman or 5 Blast Doors (i.e. a ticket would be the equivalent of spending fame one time on a specific item). Players would still very much need to explore the world in order to build more than one or two stages, but this would allow them to have an initial taste of creating a stage and helping to expand the world much more quickly, which might in turn encourage them to build more in the future. |

07/02/15 Currently each story episode requires an increasing amount of adventure completions to be made, as well as have a minimum player level - both prerequisites are to force players to explore the world (and not only floor 1). While we have plans for the size and scope of the story itself - the rewards that it gives are definitely subject to change - however, it's important to remember that we don't want to 'force' players to create adventures, we much prefer content to be created by the players who want to create. Same with the story - while it exists to give players some 'structure' and long term goal to the gameplay, it will never be a requirement for exploring the world or expanding the world in any way (though it might give some cool rewards that somehow enhance the exploring or adventure creating experiences). Pretty cool ideas though! (the shurikens found around the story currently give much more gold then normal shurikens btw) - we'll definitely take those into consideration. |
